This research seminar will discuss methodological challenges in interviewing financial elites. It will focus in particular on issues emerging from the exploration of individual and institutional memories of financial crises, examining how senior financial actors understand and recollect previous financial crises, and how these shaped their actions during the 2008 Global Financial Crisis. Drawing on her own research experience with French bankers and high civil servants, Professor Laure Quennouëlle-Corre (CNRS, Paris) will address the core methodological challenges that interviews with senior bankers pose. This will be followed by comments from discussants, before opening for wider discussion with all participants.
